چکیده

D. Paul, M. Zaitsev, J. Hennig Diagnostic Radiology Medical Physics, University Hospital, Freiburg, Germany Introduction Balanced steady state free precession sequences (b-SSFP; also known as TrueFISP, FIESTA, balanced FFE ...) are widely used in cardiac and abdominal imaging. They typically result in image contrast determined by T2/T1 [1]. In order to suppress signal oscillations from onand off-resonant spins at the beginning of an experiment, the TIDE method was introduced [2]. TIDE provides higher image quality and reduced artifacts from off-resonant spins [2]. Additionally, the variable flip angle scheme of TIDE modifies the frequency response, leading to varied behavior of stop bands as compared to standard SSFP imaging [3]. We investigated and exploited the modified behavior of the frequency response in order to achieve intrinsic fat suppression in SSFP-type imaging.

Determination of Optimal Liver-Lesion Contrast in LOW-TIDE B-SSFP Imaging

Introduction: Previously, a variation of the Transition to Driven Equilibrium (TIDE) [1] called LOW-TIDE for Linear filter-based Optimal Window TIDE [2] approach to catalyzing the steady-state signal during continuous acquisition of image data in balanced SSFP had been presented. The LOW-TIDE technique has the advantage of smaller signal fluctuations at off-resonance frequencies for relatively ...

Boesiger Institute for Biomedical Engineering, University and ETH Zurich, Zurich, Kanton Zurich, Switzerland, John Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, United States Introduction In spite of significantly improved saturation pulses [1,2] sufficient outer volume (OVS) and especially fat suppression in MRSI could only be achieved in combinat...

Non-invasive quantification of liver fat content by different Gradient Echo MRI sequences in patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Introduction: Non-invasive quantification of liver fat by Gradient echo (GRE) Technique is an interesting issue in quantitative MRI. Despite the numerous advantages of this technique, fat measurement maybe biased by confounding and effects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the GRE pulse sequences with different   and  weighting for liver fat quantification in patients with...

Determination of Optimal Fat Suppression in LOW-TIDE B-SSFP Imaging using Eigenvalue Analysis

Introduction: Linear filter-based Optimal Window Transition to Driven Equilibrium (LOW-TIDE) is a preparation scheme for T2 weighting and intrinsic fat suppression with balanced SSFP imaging when partial Fourier encoding in the phase direction is used [1]. Both TIDE [2] and LOW-TIDE use a (α/2)-(TR/2) preparation pulse followed by a train of π (180°) excitation pulses. This is followed by a smo...

Measurement of T1 in the Vessel Wall Using MRI

This thesis presents a high-resolution volumetric technique to measure the longitudinal relaxation time T1 in the vessel wall using MRI. The method of Variable Flip Angles (VFA) was applied using a new strategy for flip angle selection that allows measurement of T1 with high accuracy (< 10% mean error) and precision (T1-to-noise ratio > 10) over the wide range of anticipated values (300-3000ms)...
